Alternator Problem??

My TR6 has a slow battery drain I have not been able to trace down yet.  If
I don't drive the car for over a week the battery will drain and I have to
jump the car off.  The other day I tried to jump the car off after almost a
week of rain.  The car started fine, but as soon as I removed the jumper
cables it would die.  Does this mean my alternator is shot?  Will a local
Advance Auto parts store be able to test the old Lucas unit?
