John Phillips and I are in the process of helping a member do some work on
his '74 TR6. He wants us to replace the front and rear main seals because of
leakage (who's doesn't leak?) so we decided that while the engine is out we
should look at the rod and main bearings for wear and check clearances. We
pulled one rod cap and the copper is just starting to show through. The
journal looks good with minor scratches and pits. No grooves or craters. We
are going to plastigage for clearances. The book (Bentley's) give the
clearances for the rods, using plastigage, as 0.001 to 0.0027. We cannot
find the clearances for the mains. Any suggestions?
