Ignition question

Okay - I installed an electronic ignition and now have read to disable the
resistive thing. I read somewhere that it is the pink wire leading from the
harness to the coil, I just cut the wire and the car will not start - it
tries; but will not sustain. I reconnected the two ends and it starts great.
Can anyone help me disable the resistive thing ?
