Hi,
Have a potential problem oh knowledgeable group.
I want to change from the 4.30 gear I am presently running
back to the stock 3.70. Have a used center section that
appears ok - except the PO apparently believed in dropping
the hammer before the clutch as the mounts are broken.

I think I read somewhere that there is a compressible sleeve
(?) that is installed ahead of the drive shaft flange. This
thing allegedly compresses on installation and can only be
used once. Why? Does it, in conjunction with the torque on
the drive shaft flange nut, control pinion depth? If so, is
there a way around it? Like maybe checking the torque in
disassembly and then using the same spec. on reassembly
after changing the mount. The reason for the concern is that
I don't have the tools for proper rear end set up.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Bill
