hi list,
just a quick note to update on my blown tranny and OD saga. got
it back just over a week ago and put it in sat. of last week.
drove it most of the week to put some miles on, sure seemed funny
being able to look down and see the road below and the universal
spinning away right beside me, made me drive with lots of care
and attention. Too it for a long hot spin on Sat. morning,
figured get it hot, circulate the oil just one more time before I
changed it. That's when I noticed a pretty good leak of oil,
coming from the tp right front, from where the gear selector
casing mates to the tranny. glad I found it before I did the
interior replacement. Any way, off it came, cleaned the case
with acetone, alcohol and let it dry. used ultra-black silicone
in lieu of the torn gasket. no trouble putting it back
together. Changed the oil. A pretty fair amount of bits and
gold dust were attached to both the magnet on the plug and the
one for the tranny filter. The oil had a beautiful - in the sun
anyway - metalic sheen to it, was suspended stuff again I think.

I insulated the cabin as I put the carpet back in. I know, it's
not spec, but it works... I used foam rubber padding from a
carpet installer. Used doulbe sided tape to hold everything in,
so that if I have to remove it, it's not going to be as hard as
glue to remove.. Really made a difference in cabin noise, even
with the top down...

Today I'm going to raise the rear and replace the trailing arm
bushings. Fugre 4 hours for the first, learning as i go, 2 hours
for the other. wish me luck!

Tomorrow, if all is done well, will be a wheel balance and a run
down the coast for a bit...

Question on front shocks - are 'generic' replacments available
from the local parts stores? I looked at them, they seem to be
pretty standard in length? any experience any one?
