Just a few more tidbits on the tone or tin sound that was mentioned......
The gage of tubing has an effect on the tin sound.....
The heavier 16 GAGE will give a better solid sound, but with the cost of
added weight.
The next ingredient to the mix, is the SIZE of the can, or more important
the internal volume that effects the final note.
small cans produce sharp tones ......... an LARGER volumes produce more
mellow tones.
The purpose of the large transverse can you see on the younger TRs was to
lower the sound tone.
If this is what you seek, Rimer has the two in, and two out stock transverse
units in stainless, but not in singles.
My 76 has equel length headers along with a true ceramic coating that
connects to a two into one, all build with 18 gage to this point.
>From there I switch to stainless, with a gasket less ball & socket, that
connects with a free floating 4 bolt billet flange.
And then run the mufflle at a trans angle........ from right rear shock,
to left rear stabizer bar. This gives anough room for a .... 18'' -
8'' - 4'' the largest can with good all around clearence.
If you are not tied to a stock unit, thier are many making stanless these
days, and even some engineers that have figured out how to produce power
without that horrid free flow sound.
