Bob---An engine that's been sitting idle for four years is bound to have
a few things in it that are out of sorts. If the oil is staying clean,
I'd drive it, or at least run it some more before doing a tear-down. If
I read your message correctly, you said you replaced the head gasket and
radiator water, but still had an oil film on top of the radiator water.
More flushing of the radiator may be necessary to remove the gray film.
So far as white smoke from the tailpipe, it could be normal condensation
from water stored in the tail pipes and muffler. This was the bright
side.
To be sure that the head gasket change was sucessful, run the engine
with the radiator cap off, with the coolant temperature hot enough so
that the thermostat is open. (180 degrees) If bubbles are coming up thru
the coolant water, compression forces are getting into the water
passages somewhere. Another lister's suggestion of doing a compression
check may identify the exact cylinder where this is taking place.
That could be a valuable head you have from Triumph Tune, but I wouldn't
recommend it for a street engine. Too hot for today's wimpy pump gas
octane...
