Kevin---Both the gas gauge and temperature gauge are wired to the
voltage stabilizer. This gizmo is located on the back of the speedometer
housing. Usually when the VS itself goes bad, both of these other two
gauges read too high, as in more gas than you have in the tank, and
engine coolant hotter than it really is. In your case, be sure that the
wires going to this rather small, rectangular connector are snug, and
the black wires are grounded.  If you are a new owner of the TR6, it
really pays to have a good manual, like the Robert Bentley. If your TR
came with the owners handbook, there's a wiring schematic on one of the
pages.

These cars are not difficult to work on, but most of us do need a
manual. It definitely make it more fun!
