I have just finished restoring a 71 TR6 for my Father-in-law. This car has
a different fuel system on it than any other TR6 I can recall and I am not
sure I have the emissions stuff hooked up properly. I do not think at this
point the car is fitted with the original carbs and air cleaner.
Point one, the carbs have no ports for the emissions hoses to connect to.
Point two, the air cleaner has a port between the carbs which I find no
example of for a TR6.
There is no other emissions equipment on the car.
Currently I have the hoses routed from the valve cover to the top of the
carbon canister and from the bottom of the canister to the port on the air
cleaner between the carbs. The only other hose in the process is the vent
tube from the gas tank.
If possible, I would like to know the origin of this kind of setup (250?,
4?) and whether or not there is a better routing for the hoses. The concern
is a possible pressure build up in the valve cover area blowing a little oil
out the new valve cover cap and even through the head gasket on the left
side of the engine where there are no oil galleries. Changed the head
gasket three times, different kinds of gaskets, different kinds of sealants.
Yeah, it's flat.
The darn thing runs better than my own "Pumkin" but I hate to see a newly
rebuilt (professionally) engine with oil everywhere.
Also, I need one of the plastic seat belt retainers for my 76 (the thing you
stick the seat belt in when not in use) since the last time I had mine out I
tightened it one too many turns and broke the attachment ears off. Anyone
have an extra? Also in the market for a couple of TR6 wheels. The 71 came
with two that used to have the hub cap studs in them (69 TR6, TR4?). Of
course they need to be straight.
