Robert---It would help to know why you believe both of your gauges are "optimistic." Are they the original units? They should be made by Smiths. The speedometer should show a gear ratio of 3.55:1 i small numbers, right below the X 100. (This is an internal ratio, not the differential or rear end gears.) When cruising is 4th gear, non-OD, the speedo should read approx. 22 mph for every 1000rpm, or 22mph for every 2000 rpm when in second gear. This will give you a good indication of how your numbers line up with the factory engineering. Dick Taylor '73 |
